High-Intensity Discharge as the name says is a light bulb that provides an intense light capable of penetrating the canopy and nourishing your plant. The common hybrid HID grow lights setups are composed of various pieces such as the ballast to provide the right power to ignite and control the intensity of the bulb. A reflector to concentrate light on the desired spot. An MH (Metal Halide) bulb to provide the adequate light spectrum needed for the vegetation stage. An HPS (High-Pressure Sodium) bulb to provide the adequate spectrum needed for flowering.
LED or Light-emitting diodes are increasingly popular among growers for many reasons. Although they are more expensive than HID’s, they are highly more durable, energy-efficient and produce less heat while still providing a wider light spectrum.
HID lights have a long history of successful grow thus, there is a ton of reliable information on how to effectively use them. The initial setup is way cheaper than LED and also provides a stronger light penetration thus growing bigger buds and yields.
LED’s are evolving very fast and an increasing number of expert growers are adopting them. Their economy in energy and their durability makes them a more cost-efficient solution in the long term. LED technology is also allowing growers to provide a more precise light spectrum to optimize their plant along with all stages and many argue this leads to higher quality and potency.
Soil is the natural medium for growing plants. A good soil already has the necessary nutrients in its composition, but when growing indoors, the soil must be mixed with nutrient-rich ingredients such as guano or worm casting to ensure the plant never runs out of nutrients.
Hydroponic is an artificial way of growing where the plants receive all of its nutrients via water. There are many different hydroponic practices such as coco coir who will offer a similar experience to growing in soil but without the risks of a pest.
You should grow in soil if you prefer organic methods. It is said that soil-grown marijuana tastes better and is also more forgiving than other mediums because even if you forget to check on your plant from time to time, she will still draw the nutrients present in the soil.
Growing hydroponic is faster than soil and less prone to pest problems. Hydroponic also allows you to set up automatic systems that require only a few minutes every week and give you full control of the nutrient inputs.
The fan and filter combo must be mounted inside the tent in order to create negative pressure. By opening the air vents on the lower parts of the tent, outside air is sucked from the bottom, passing through your plants and into the fan.
Having the exhaust of your ventilation system going directly to the exterior is mostly to deal with the humidity and extract all the "used" air to allow fresher air in, it will deal with some of the smells but that will not be sufficient, filters are required for this application.
The most precise formula is to calculate volume of the grow room as you did (LxWxH), the extraction fan should be able to adequately exchange the air once every minute.
Once you have that result, add the required CFM to operate the filter.
